Our 2019 Pinot Noir was bottled in late July 2020 and is shaping up as a ‘Serious Moutere Pinot’, due for release next year and the first Chardonnay under the Flaxmore label (2020) is currently in barrel, also due for release next year.
From the vine to the bottle our wines are fully accredited by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand.
Pinot Gris
A true single vineyard wine “one clone/one block”. Made from our Pinot Gris “Alsace 457” clone, this is a gentle wine that offers crisp, ripe pear and citrus notes with background spice notes and a slightly dry finish. The perfect white for both casual and fine dining.
Hand harvested; whole bunch pressed; stainless steel tank fermentation using aromatic yeast; kept on “fine lees” post fermentation (4 months). 13.5% Alc/Vol.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
Awarded 4 1/2 Stars by Michael Cooper:
“Estate-grown, hand-picked and tank-fermented in the Moutere hills, the 2019 vintage is a mouth-filling, dryish wine with good weight and a distinct touch of complexity. Showing plenty of character, it has pear, citrus, lychee and spice flavours, a real sense of youthful vigour, savoury notes and a long finish.”
(Pinot Gris 2018 & 2019 - SOLD OUT)
Rosé
Made from our Pinot Noir clones “Abel” and “Dijon 115” this is a subtle Rosé offering a layer of summer fruits, good length on the palate and a slightly dryer finish than the norm for NZ Rosé. Salmon pink in colour - just gently chill for casual or fine dining.
Hand harvested, 50% skin contact (6 hours); 50% whole bunch press; stainless steel tank fermentation using aromatic yeast; kept on “fine lees” post fermentation (4 months). 13.5% Alc/Vol.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
Awarded 4 1/2 Stars by Michael Cooper:
“Bargain priced, the 2019 vintage is a ‘serious’ style of rosé, from hand-picked Pinot Noir, estate-grown in the Moutere hills. Pale pink, it is mouth-filling, with strong peach, apricot and spice flavours, a touch of tannin and a dry finish. Delicious drinking!”
(Rosé 2018 & 2019 - SOLD OUT)
Pinot Noir
Blended from our Pinot Noir clones “Abel” and “Dijon 115”, this fine Pinot Noir has a delicious balance of crushed fruits with savoury undertones. It is broad, textural and very approachable. A delicious Pinot Noir which sits at the European end of the New Zealand Pinot Noir taste spectrum.
Hand harvested; 16 days on skins; wild fermented; natural spring malolactic fermentation; 9 months oak maturation (20% new); coarse filtered. 12.5% Alc/Vol.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Awarded 4 Stars by Bob Campbell and 92 Points by Cameron Douglas:
“Really nice bouquet of Pinot Noir with aromas of roses and cherries, red plum and cranberry. A light savoury, dried herb and stony mineral layer adds complexity and depth. Tense, youthful, savoury, fruity, light-weight and dry. I really like the texture and balance for this wine, it has just enough complexity with a core of pinosity, fine tannins and balanced use of oak. Drinking well from today and through 2022.”
Pinot Noir 2019 - to be released early-mid 2021
