Flaxmore Vineyards opens its Cellar Door on Moutere Artisans Day 2019.

On October 27, Flaxmore Vineyards were delighted to become the 17th location to open our doors for Moutere Artisans Day, an annual celebration of local creativity.*

After 11 years of growing grapes, we (Stuart and P Anderson) decided to launch our own label in 2018 and now, our newest venture is a ‘cellar door’, allowing the public to taste and purchase our wines in the heart of the vineyard.

Not only can you meet us, hear our story, find out about grape growing decisions made over the years and receive wine tasting tips and notes, we have also opened a vineyard walk, so that you can stroll through the vines and catch the amazing views across the Moutere valley to the majestic Kahurangi ranges beyond.

Our first weekend was a huge success, with a constant stream of guests enjoying some beautiful Moutere weather and hospitality. Open Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 4pm, throughout the season, and on weekdays by appointment (just call 027.527.8680), our vineyard experience has been described as ‘a gem on the trail of creativity in the Nelson/Tasman region’ for locals and tourists alike.

* Upper Moutere is a small village outside Nelson on the South Island of New Zealand. It’s home to a bunch of very creative and productive people, the Moutere Artisans, who invite you to explore their special village each Labour Day Sunday.

The Artisans produce “really, really nice stuff”. This is a tagline which rings true. Our small village is prolific – great wine, enviable cider, lush olive oil, handmade sheep’s cheese, gourmet mushrooms, alpaca fibre, sculpture, ceramics, conserves, exquisite hand woven baskets from local forests, and the oldest pub in New Zealand.

This line up cannot be replicated anywhere in New Zealand. It’s proudly Moutere and we all celebrate our unique village.

The charm of the Moutere Artisans is not just the quality product but the people…we are all proudly small producers who welcome the interaction with our customers and their friends over the Artisan Open Day. Visitors from around the globe envy our beautiful area and we’ve attracted write ups across the UK, USA, National Geographic, Cuisine (NZ) and many of us have featured on Country Calender.
